Reflexology

Reflexology is a gentle accupressure massage of the feet that promotes relaxation, improves circulation, reduces pain, and encourages overall healing.

The underlying theory behind Reflexology is that there are "reflex" areas on the feet and hands that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body.

Roots of Reflexology

Modern Reflexology is based on an ancient form of therapy dating back as far as 4,000 B.C. in China and Egypt.  The North American tribes of Indians are also known to have practiced a form of foot therapy for hundreds of years.

"Zone Therapy" was used as far back as AD 1500. During the 16th Century a number of books were published on Zone Therapy.  The American president, James Abram Garfield, was said to apply pressure to his feet to relieve pain.

Dr. William H. Fitzgerald, an ear, nose and throat doctor, introduced this concept of "Zone Therapy" in 1915.  American physiotherapist Eunice Ingram further developed this "Zone Therapy" theory in the 1930's.  This is the basis for modern-day Reflexology.

Reflexology is recommended as a complementary therapy and should not replace medical treatment.   Reflexology is NOT recommended if you are pregnant.
